The flowers gracing the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in
loving memory of my beloved mother Hulda Peterson Johansson and in
honor
of all our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, daughters and all
loving women who have touched our lives by Anna Schroeder.
The Eucharist this morning is dedicated to the loving memory of
Josephine Costarella Safay, beloved mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother on her first Mother's Day
in heaven.

May 1913 -- 5th May 2003
I just wish I knew some magic words to say
to take your troubles away,
But at times like these we realize
that our Lord Jesus, who is both kind and wise,
can do what none of us can do
and that's to heal and comfort you.
So I commend you to his care.
May he hear your silent prayer
and grant returning health to you
as only he alone can do.
-- A prayer recited daily by Josephine
Thanks to everyone for coming to support Fran and her family during
their time of grief and for giving Hank a great sendoff. Let's continue
to not only keep Fran in prayer but to show tangible signs of our care
-
cards, phone calls, invitations to dinner, etc...
Support our
Troops!
There will be a rally in support of our troops in the Iraq in front of
the New Utrecht Liberty Pole on Saturday, May 17th from Noon to 1:30
PM.
The rally is sponsored by New
Utrecht Reformed Church and by State
Senator Marty Golden.
Next week we will celebrate Earth Day! Come willing to plant a flower
or pray for one!
MOTHER'S DAY PROCLAMATION
Arise, then, women of this day!
Arise, all women
who have hearts, whether your baptism be that of water or of fears!
Say firmly: "We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant
agencies,
"Our husbands shall
not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause.
"Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been
able to teach them of charity, mercy, and patience.
"We women of one
country will be too tender of those of another country to allow our
sons
to be trained to injure theirs."
From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with our own. It
says, "Disarm, Disarm!"
The sword of murder
is not the balance of justice! Blood does not wipe out dishonor nor
violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the summons of
war, let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and
earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet
first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them then solemnly take counsel with each other as the means
whereby the great human family can live in peace,
And each bearing
after her own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar, but of God.

Faith of Our Mothers
St. Catherine
A. B. Patten, H. F. Hemy
Arranged by James G. Walton
1. Faith of our mothers, living
still,
In cradle song and bedtime prayer;
In nursery lore and fireside love,
Thy presence still pervades the air.
Faith of our mothers, living faith,
We will be true to thee till death.
2. Faith of our mothers, loving faith,
Fount of our childhood's trust and grace,
Oh, may thy consecration prove
Source of a finer, nobler race;
Faith of our mothers, loving faith,
We will be true to thee till death.
3. Faith of our mothers, guiding faith,
For youthful longing, youthful doubt,
How blurred our vision, blind our way,
Thy providential care without,
Faith of our mothers, guiding faith,
We will be true to thee till death.
4. Faith of our mothers, Christian faith,
In truth beyond our stumbling creeds,
Still serve the home and save the Church,
And breathe thy spirit through our deeds;
Faith of our mothers, Christian faith,
We will be true to thee till death.
