BROOKLYN, June 6 - New Utrecht Reformed Church continued its tradition of ringing the bell for the death of every president since George Washington on Saturday evening by ringing the church bell for the death of Ronald Reagan, who died at the age of 93 of pneumonia and of symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's Disease. Reagan died in Bel Air, California at 1 PM Pacific Daylight Time on Saturday. Members of the civic organization Friends of Historic New Utrecht rang the bell 50 times in memory of the former president, who presided over a Liberty Weekend ceremony in New York Harbor on July 3, 1986 commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Reagan pressed a button shooting a laser beam at the statue, lighting it. -- The New Utrecht Reformed Church is a historic landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The church, established in 1677 and a member of the Reformed Church in America, is the fourth oldest church in Brooklyn. The Liberty Pole, first installed in 1783, is the sixth pole erected at the site of the present church and is the only remaining liberty pole in the original thirteen colonies.
