Church service cancelled

New Utrecht Reformed Church has cancelled its service for Sunday, January 23 because of the blizzard which hit the city this weekend. With God's help, New Utrecht Reformed Church will resume its services on Sunday, January 30 with the ordination of Deacon Carol Dickert and the installation of elders and deacons. In the meantime, please follow the readings for this Sunday, January 23.

Church held a special collection for tsunami victims

New Utrecht Reformed Church held a special collection on Sunday, January 9 for the victims of last Sunday's tsunami that swept across 15 countries in Asia and Africa, killing killing (minimum confirmed figures, as of Saturday, January 22) 220,940, missing 46,439, injuring 124,489 and displacing 1,591,200 people. The church raised $1,000, which will be sent to Reformed Church World Service, which, according to its website, will "send an additional $40,000 to support continuing emergency relief and rehabilitation. This brings the total sent by RCWS to $100,000. The money is being used by partners Church World Service (CWS) and Action by Churches Together (ACT) in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand."

In addition to Sunday's collection, the following resources are available to help the millions of victims of the tsunami, from RCA.ORG:

You can help by:

1. Praying for the survivors and the staff helping with the recovery.

Donate

2. Contributing to the "Asian Tsunami" fund established by RCWS. Money will be needed for many years to support emergency relief and long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts. Contributions designated for "Asian Tsunami" may be sent to Reformed Church in America, P.O. Box 19381, Newark, NJ 07195-1938 or, in Canada, to Regional Synod of Canada, RR #4, Cambridge, ON N1R 5S5. To make a credit card donation (Visa or MasterCard), call the Michigan Regional Center at (800) 968-3943, ext. 210, or click on "Make a Donation."

3. Assembling "Gift of the Heart" health kits that are urgently needed in the CWS warehouse in New Windsor, Maryland, for shipment as requested by partners in the twelve countries affected by the Asian tsunami.

Thank you for your cards, letters, contributions, and prayers. We are grateful for your partnership as we respond to this terrible tragedy.

2005 Flower Calendar

Donations are needed for the restoration of our sanctuary. Silk flower arraignments will be provided on Sundays in lieu of fresh flowers in order to dedicate flower donations to the restoration of the sanctuary. We will continue to print dedication information in the bulletin. Your donation of $20 weekly will be given to the restoration fund. Families will not receive flowers.

Thank you!
Our thanks to Elder Louise Fabiszak, the Outreach Committee and the many, many members who made our Living Nativity come to life! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Our thanks also to Deacon Deborah Siciargo for helping the homeless and to Bill Nicotra for bringing toys to the homeless this Advent!
